Description
Is Kinesiology Tape Right for Me?
Kinesiology Tape is very different from support athletic tape, support tape is used to support and to limit range of motion in joints, whilst Kinesiology Tape is used to increase motion and reduce pain.
Kinesiology tape is a flexible material that moves as you move; support tape has very little flexibility.
Kinesiology tape helps to increase lymphatic drainage and increases circulation.
What is Kinesiology Tape used for?
Kinesiology tape can be used in various ways for various conditions, such as
Pain management:
Kinesiology tape can be used to help decrease pain and muscle spasm that may occur after an acute injury.
Support and stability:
If you are suffering with conditions that require a specific joint to be held in place, kinesiology taping can help with conditions like patellofemoral stress syndrome or iliotibial band syndrome, or you have shoulder instability or injury that may benefit from extra support provided by kinesiology tape, the tape can support your joint while still allowing you to be able to move the joint through it range of motion.
Swelling management:
If you have suffered an acute injury or have had surgery that has resulted in swelling, kinesiology tape may help to reduce this swelling by microscopically lifting the skin to provide a pathway for the excess fluids that has accumulated to drain away via the lymphatic system within your body.
What should I wear?
Feel free to wear whatever is comfortable, however, bringing a pair of shorts and a tee-shirt to wear the Therapist will then advise on which items of clothing that may need to be removed for the tape to be applied. The therapist will leave the room while you remove any clothing and towels will be provided for you to drape yourself.
